The Evolution of an Image

One of the differences between someone who can handle a camera and a `full-service' professional is the presentation of your images.

This little image can show the evolution that an image can go through for it to reach its `full potential'.

The initial image was a moment in time when a young flower girl stands at the top of the isle and is about to walk all the way down to the front - all by herself. This is what she sees and it can be quite daunting.

The process;

1. The raw image from the camera.

2. Straight conversion to black & white and cropping.

3. Density and contrast are enhanced.

4. Further image enhancement with darkening certain areas of the image to highlight the relevant subjects.

5. Enhance the floor and other areas of the image.

6. Introduce some toning and some other subtle enhancements.

Shoot and Burn Photography - is this the future?

Kelly & BrettI recently received a phone enquiry from a prospective client who enquired about our services. She was after photo coverage on the day plus all the images on a disk.

I explained that although that was a service many photographers provided, we provide quite a bit more and our services provided quality photographs in a custom designed album and that although a disk of images can be included in some of our packages, it isn't the focus of our services. I provide something quite special and creative.

She explained that the trend is for photographers to just provide images on a disk and what I was offering wasn't of interest. I agreed and suggested that perhaps I wasn't the type of photographer she was looking for. We both agreed and our conversation went on and finished very amicably that we were both right.

It is clear that there are many photographers offering a shoot and burn service. (Shoot and burn is where the photographer take the photos on the wedding day and provides the couple with a disk of images). And this is all ok! Different strokes for different folks.

How to Choose a Wedding Photographer

Your photography is one of the most important services for your wedding. But how do you choose a good one?

Places you can start looking are;

  • Searching the internet.
  • Purchase some Bridal Magazines (local magazines are most relevant).
  • Talk to some friends who recently married.
  • Phone some photographers and  have them send you some information (post or email).
  • Visit some photographers (about 3-6 is helpful. More can start to get confusing).
